Five Minutes (or seconds) of Fame

19 12 2007

Well, everyone should have their fifteen minutes of fame…or five minutes…or five seconds, as the case may be!  Recently, some friends from my singing group and I auditioned for an NBC reality show called “Clash of the Choirs.”  To our credit, we managed to get to the final auditions, however, once there, we quickly realized we were not the stuff this show was made of.  For one, we did not all know the song “Survivor”, which the conductor of the choir we were auditioning for, Kelley Rowland, was famous for singing.  But, we went in with smiles on and our music held high.

In the end, it really wasn’t as bad as it could have been.  They showed a pan shot of us singing, one of our members miked up significantly louder than the rest so we sounded awful and, well, really didn’t look too excited either.  But, we did our best and my grandma saw me on national television so I’m psuedo-famous now…at least not infamous.

So, with my desire to be a TV star well behind me, I now turn my attention to the holidays.  One more performance with the Houston Symphony this week, Handel’s Messiahand then, two weeks to think about writing my grant proposal, wrapping those last minute Christmas presents, and trying to find the floor of our house which I suspect is hidden there somewhere underneath all the clothes and other junk.  I’ll also be thinking about the spring semester and some new projects to try out in class as well as getting more acquainted with my new blog here.  I’m really glad I’m teaching the painting classes because it’s given not only me confidence to explore as an artist, but it’s opened up a whole new world watching my students do it as well.

I’m very proud of the work you all have accomplished this school year!  I will try and get some pictures posted of your projects very soon.

Seasons greetings,

~Mrs. A :)
